EMS is taught in Grades 7 through 9.
The curriculum draws on content from
Accounting, Business Studies,
Consumer Studies, and Economics, as
well as Travel & Tourism. Students
gain a general understanding of each
of the subject areas covered. We aim
to encourage students to select a
combination of Accounting, Business
Studies and/or Economics in the FET
phase.
Students are constantly exposed to
current affairs and are taken on
many business-type excursions, which
are aimed at equipping them to apply
their theoretical knowledge to real
life situations. We have
re-structured the Grade 7 to 9 EMS
syllabus to suit our unique needs,
so during Grade 7 we cover not only
the necessary content, but also the
current affairs-type extension work
that is required in the Academy
community. Grade 8 students actively
participate in running a market day,
and are assisted in opening a
savings account with Nedbank. As
much of the focus in Grade 9 is on
Accounting, students are required to
participate in a simulation game
hosted by Banango Traders. This
activity prepares students for the
‘take-over’ of the Dikgwebas
businesses by those students
planning to study Business Studies
in Grade 10.
